Life Science and Everyday Thinking
Life Science for Everyday Thinking (LSET) is a lab-based introductory biology course designed for general education students and future teachers. It is designed to be taught in one 15-week semester, with 6 lab hours of instruction per week. There are options for excluding certain chapters to fit a 10-week quarter.
The semester long LSET curriculum is divided into seven major chapters that cover the following topics:
- Chapter 1: Introduction to Living Things and Ecosystems
- Chapter 2: Consumers (Animals)
- Chapter 3: Producers (Plants)
- Chapter 4: Decomposers (Fungi and Bacteria) and Ecosystems
- Chapter 5: Cell Growth
- Chapter 6: Cell Reproduction and Genetics
- Chapter 7: Evolution
While those teaching in the semester system can teach Chapters 1-7 consecutively, those teaching in the quarter system can either teach the curriculum with an ecosystem focus (Chapters 1-4 and 7) or with a more cellular focus (Chapters 1,2,5-7).
