Biology

In Biology, I am interested in how animals physiologically respond to and live in their Nucella embryoenvironments. My work focuses on marine invertebrates, primarily molluscs. Members of my lab are currently working on restoration aquaculture of our endangered native abalone, Haliotis kamtschatkana. In collaboration with the Puget Sound Restoration Fund and government partners, we are working to restore local populations to densities that will support viable reproduction in the wild.

In Biology Education, I am interested in the effectiveness of active learning pedagogies. I am currently investigating how to form groups in large enrollment biology classes to support learning for all students.

I am also a coauthor of reformed biology curriculum called Life Science and Everyday Thinking. More information about this curriculum can be found by following the navigation tab to the left or by going to the LSET website.
