Course Announcements:

  • This page was current in Fall 2007, when I last taught the class. I've left some materials posted so that you can see some of my teaching tools and other course information. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this Bio 101 class. Thanks.
  • Your FINAL EXAM is DECEMBER 10TH at 3:30pm. Please study in a small group and/or with your quiz partner. The exam will cover material beginning with redox reactions (Energy PPT), through lecture on Friday, December 7th. The page numbers for this material in the textbook are summarized as follows: Ch. 5:72-79, Ch. 6: 92-101, Ch. 7: 106-120, Ch. 10: 150-163, Ch. 11: 168-169; Ch. 13: 194-196, 198-202, and 204-205, Ch. 17: 260, 262, 264, 266-268, 270, 272-276 and Ch. 18: 286-293, (review 294-295). To prepare for quizzes and exams, I suggest that you focus on the information (and the depth with which it is presented) in the PPT lectures, including the learning objectives. Then use the book as a reference to help fill-in or explain any information you may be uncertain about. Also, attempt to answer the questions that appear on the PPT slides. These questions often highlight what I think is a difficult or particularly important concept. Also, review the questions submitted by students and discussed in class at the start of the following lecture (see link below). And as always, if you can't find the answer in the book, please bring your question(s) to class.

  • Every student will be using a personal "clicker" for use in the classroom throughout the quarter. Please see these instructions on how to check-out your clicker.
  • Please print a copy of this newspaper article (if you didn't pick one up in class) "Doing Poorly": Correlation Excercise
  • The ability to ask questions is important to your understanding of biology! We have discussed these end-of-class questions. Please study these in preparation for in-class evaluations (exams and quizzes) Notice that your questions are evolving from primarily "what" and "which" type questions, to ones that ask "how" and "why". Well done!
  • Scores for EXAM II (as well as the previous exam and quizzes) are now available (11/14/07). The high score on this exam was 79/75, and the average was 58/75 (77%). The class average is currently 75% in lecture. Click on this link and enter your W# to access your SCORES .
