Intelligent Design Background Information

Intelligent Design

Critique of evolution written by a proponent of intelligent design: "Icons of Evolution" by Jonathan Wells.

Talk by Jonathan Wells to the Rev. Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church. This talk makes it quite clear that Wells is not an "unbiased scientist".

A chapter by chapter response to Wells’ "Icons of Evolution", written by Alan Gishlick, at the National Center for Science Education web page.

Multiple perspectives, including arguments of many proponents of intelligent design and responses by leading philosophers, theologians, and scientists:

Reconciling evolution and religion

A book that argues that evolution and faith are compatible:

Miller, K. R. 1999. Finding Darwin's God: A scientist's search for common ground between God and evolution. Cliff Street Books/HarperCollins, New York, NY. The Creation Controversy and the Science Classroom, a publication of the National Science Teacher’s Association. This document gives background on different creationist theologies in the context of current scientific thinking and covers strategies for teaching evolution, which may be controversial for some students.

Is evolution dogmatic?

This book documents a heated debate by two leading evolutionary scientists about how evolution works:

Sterelny, K. 2001. Dawkins vs. Gould: Survival of the Fittest. Icon Books Ltd., Cambridge, UK.
